Mental Wellness

What does mental wellness mean? Wellness differs from health in that wellness is an ongoing practice of making decisions towards a healthy a fulfilling life. It emphasizes prevention, balance and self-responsibility. 

Wellness is an active process that focuses on behaviours and habits not just outcomes. So, what does this mean in terms of mental wellness? It means that there are nuances to feeling anxious vs not anxious, depressed vs not depressed, sad vs happy, angry vs calm. Health by definition is the "absence of illness", while we never truly rid ourselves of the anxiety, depression, sadness or anger, we can work to better manage how those thoughts and feelings affect our lives.
